A "Green" Bathroom Remodeling Idea: Plant a Toilet, Save a Tree
by Wendy Croix
High-tech toilets from Toto, the world's largest toilet manufacturer, offer an ecological, forward-looking substitute for the standard American fixture. If you're searching for an innovative bathroom remodeling idea, consider a "smart" toilet.
The bidet has long been a feature of upscale American bathrooms, though it's never achieved the popularity in the U.S. that it has in Europe or Japan. However, Toto aims to change all that with an elegant luxury toilet for the upscale market and a "washlet" that makes a standard toilet paperless.

Ecological Good Sense
High-tech paperless toilets are the ecological choice, conserving both trees and water. The Toto toilet has a low consumption, cyclone flushing action. Were Totos universal, these paperless toilets could save the 15,000,000 trees Americans consume in bathroom tissue each year.
The Toto Neorest 600
The Neorest is a sleek toilet whose high-tech features include front-and back-aerated warm water spray, a self-cleaning wand, warm air dryer, heated seat, and automatic air purifier. The wireless control panel plugs into a standard 120 Volt AC outlet. Neorest installs on your existing plumbing, if you have a 12” Rough-in, water supply located about 11” off-center, and 20-80 PSI water pressure.
The Washlet
The Toto Washlet is a combination toilet-seat/bidet with an armrest-style control panel on the Chloe version and wireless remote control on the Jasmin model. Both come in round or elongated styles to fit most toilets, and connect to the toilet's existing water supply. Both need a 120-Volt AC outlet.
Before You Buy
Do shop for the best price. Designer bathroom shops charge considerably more than large outlets or bidet suppliers.
Kind to pregnant women, the handicapped, and seniors, the "smart" toilet is a healthy choice for everyone. One of these smart toilets could help you do your part in taking care of the earth.
