Choose The Right Tile and Mortar for Your Kitchen Flooring.
Since water will be an issue, make sure to choose vitreous tiles. These have a waterproof glaze and are perfect for kitchen flooring. You'll want epoxy adhesive when you lay the tile, and epoxy mortar to ensure your new tile floor resists dampness. Choose tile and grout that can be sealed to protect the color and beauty of your new kitchen flooring.
- Classic Ceramic Tile Flooring: Ancient yet today, and infinitely varied. Ceramic tile is rated on a scale of 1 to 5 for durability, so choose tile rated 3 or higher for your kitchen flooring. The smaller the tile, the "busier" the resulting pattern.
- Flexible Portstone: This acrylic product comes in a staggering selection of "tiles" and resembles brick, slate, or stone or even ceramic tile. More impact resistant than these substances, portstone opens up extraordinary kitchen design options.
- Beautiful Stone: Marble and granite. Gorgeous, but porous. Stone kitchen flooring must be carefully sealed. That sealer must be renewed periodically, lest stains ruin your kitchen flooring. Ultimately, high maintenance.
Now That You've Found The Perfect Tile:
You'll have to prepare the sub floor. Plywood is best, but cement or backer-board will serve. Next, install that beautiful tile flooring, having decided in advance whether you want a grout border or a wood baseboard. You'll spread adhesive on the sub floor and set your tile. Grout, seal, and enjoy!
