Garage Organization for the Disorganized

One of the first places in your home to become disorganized and cluttered is your garage. For many people, the garage is simply an additional storage room in their home. It can quickly turn into a state of disarray if ignored.

Interestingly enough, an organized and neat garage not only makes you feel better, but gives you much more room in which to store your stuff. There are some simple things you can do to get your garage space into order.

Get Serious about Your Garage

The garage is much more than just a place to park your vehicles. It's a bonus room, a closet, and a place to keep your sporting goods and lawn equipment. Sometimes it gets so crowded that you can barely walk through it into your house. An easy way to stop the insanity is to get serious about organizing your garage.

When you complete some simple and inexpensive projects, you can actually take full advantage of all of the room your garage has to offer. All it takes is a trip to your local hardware store and a couple of Saturdays to make your garage space work for you. Let's take a look at some easy-to-follow garage improvement products.

Get Your Garage in Order

  • Throw Out the Trash. Trash is the number one factor in a cluttered garage. Be sure to dispose of anything that doesn't have value or that you no longer use. Donate items that are still in working order.
  • Build Shelves. Shelves allow you to move items from the floor of the garage into an orderly compartment. If you can't make them, there are a variety of pre-built kinds available.
  • Hang Items from the Ceiling. Using large hook screws and rope, you can easily hang bicycles of lawn chairs from the ceiling or high on the wall. This will literally double your floor space.

With just a little imagination, I'm sure you can build on this list of ideas. But the sooner you get started, the sooner your garage will unclutter.
