If you have a lovely garden and are longing to see it better from inside your home, maybe you should think about installing a patio door. A sliding glass patio door is just like a big picture window and will give you a wonderful view of the great outdoors.
Before you go ahead and start knocking a hole in your wall for your new patio door, you need to decide what kind of sliding glass door would suit your best.
Choosing a Sliding Glass Patio Door
Sliding Glass Patio Doors Typically Have the Following Features:
- They are basically huge panes of glass that are mounted in frames with rollers.
- They have two, three, or four panels of glass. A two- or three-panel sliding glass patio door has one sliding panel and one or two fixed panels; a four-panel door usually has two sliding and two fixed panels.
- When choosing your sliding glass patio door you need to bear in mind where you want the sliding panels to be and how this will fit in with your room plan.
The frames of sliding glass patio doors are made from a variety of different materials:
- Aluminum. These patio door frames are the least expensive. They are easily maintained and will not rust but overall are the least durable and energy efficient.
- Vinyl. These patio door frames are exceptionally tough, easy to look after, and energy efficient. They will stay looking new for years with very little maintenance.
- Wood. These patio door frames are usually the most expensive option but often the most aesthetically appealing. They need to be maintained in the same way as wooden window frames.
Whatever the type of sliding glass patio door you choose you can be sure that it will brighten up the gloomiest room and fill your house with light and air.
