If you've decided to remodel your kitchen, consider installing glass cabinet doors. There are options to suit all looks, from simple to 'crafty' to artistic. You can even salvage your existing cabinets, updating them with glass inserts.

Kitchen Cabinet Project   Costs

Decorative glass kitchen cabinet doors or glass inserts can be installed in existing cabinets, which means your existing cabinets in your kitchen don't have to be ripped out. Your contractor can merely replace old doors for new ones or adapt old doors to fit inserts. This can save 50% or more on remodeling costs.

Your Options in Glass

Plain glass and wood make beautiful kitchen cabinet doors, but there are other choices…
  • Mission Glass. Mission glass kitchen cabinet doors are made of stained-glass and/or lead. They feature straight lines and simple designs and colors. These work especially well in early-century bungalows. But they also look great in many modern homes.
  • Art Glass. Is your home more of a Victorian style? Would you prefer sweeping arcs of flowers, leaves, or even a butterfly, bird, or dragonfly adorning your cabinets? These designs can also be understated (a kitchen cabinet door, for instance, of smoky white glass adorned by a vivid blue butterfly fluttering in one corner), but they are less symmetrical and more crafted than mission designs.
  • Etched Glass. What about black glass with white flowing leaves gracefully making their way across your kitchen cabinet door? Etched glass designs are reminiscent of beautiful Japanese artwork. They are typically black with white etchings or white with black etchings, with gray making an occasional appearance.

Before You Choose…

If your cabinets are more often on the cluttered side, you might want to choose stained or smoky glass as opposed to clear glass for your kitchen cabinet doors. Also, make sure your contractor uses safe and durable glass that will not shatter.

You'll be surprised how a little glass can transform the look of your kitchen cabinets.
