If you’re like most home owners, washing the glass on your home’s windows is something you probably don’t look forward to. However, these days, new home window technology is making window washing something you may not have to do quite as often.
In fact, with the latest hydrophilic coatings, homeowners may actually look forward to rain as it will help to keep the glass on their home windows clean.
Looking Forward To Rain?
Let’s face it, even if you know the old window washing trick of buffing a clean window with newspaper, there’s nothing more frustrating after you’ve finished washing the screens and glass on your home’s windows than having it rain. However, the latest in glass coatings are making it so that you might look forward to the rain because it will actually “clean” your home windows.
Easy Cleaning New Home Windows
Some home window manufacturers are now producing new home windows that have a thin layer of silicon dioxide applied to the window’s exterior. This new coating makes the surface of your home windows smoother as well as “hydrophilic” (literally, water-loving) which means the rain, rather than beading up, tends to collect in sheets and slide off the glass, which makes cleaning your windows (and keeping them clean) much easier.
Self-Cleaning New Home Windows
Other manufacturers are offering new home windows that have titanium dioxide coatings. These new home window coatings are both hydrophilic and “photo-catalytic” meaning the sun’s ultra violet rays “oxidize” any dirt on the glass and then when it rains, the dirt “rinses” off. This makes maintaining a great view even easier.
Whether you opt for easy or self cleaning, these new glass coatings make maintaining your home windows much easier.
