Planting to Attract the Butterfly to Your Japanese Garden Design
By Angelique Gervais

Sitting in an alcove of your Japanese garden you become part of the nature all around you. Inviting the flitting butterfly or chirping cricket into your garden makes it more natural, authentic, and pleasing.
How Do I Invite the Butterfly or Cricket into My Japanese Garden?
It is not surprising that the atmosphere of your Japanese Garden Design in the primary concepts are inviting to insects such as the cricket and butterfly.
Butterflies are attracted to open sunny spaces that are sheltered from much wind. The male butterfly enjoys drinking at your garden's shallow ponds and puddles. Crickets also love these moist areas and are also very fond of the rock placements that give them closed areas to crawl and nest in.
A butterfly garden also must have plants that are necessary to the survival of larvae and caterpillars. Wide leaf plants and grasses are ideal for this purpose and there is nothing like the butterfly bush to tend to the adults sweet tooth. This grassy looking blooming garden plant is complimentary to your Japanese Garden style as well.
Free Your Garden from Chemicals
If you want your Japanese garden to truly reflect the primary themes of nature and balance you will already be attentive to doing all you can to move away from the use of chemicals.
Keeping chemical use to a minimum if not avoiding their use altogether is the best thing that you can do to make your garden friendly for all types of beneficial insects. The bonus for you is that beneficial insects will help to rid your relaxation spot from biting pests as well as keeping down weed infestations as well. Talk about your win, win situation!
