Termite Inspection Tips
By Sarah Clark

Termite swarming season, which occurs in early summer, is fast approaching. While termites can appear anytime of year, you'll want to make a special effort to ensure your home is not vulnerable during this period of high termite activity.
These tips will help you get started on ensuring your home is free of termites.
Control Termites with Early Detection
If you suspect you may have termites, you can inspect your home for evidence of a termite infestation. Look for thin dirt trails along foundations, doors and windows. Other warning signs of a possible termite infestation may be wood that is soft or appears to be rotting, or small holes in sheetrock. Poke around these areas to see if any termites appear.
Part of termite control involves inspecting your home for termites every few months. Look for the same things mentioned above: mud trails and rotting wood around foundations. Have a trusted professional pest-control inspector check your house annually.
How to Choose a Pest Control Specialist
Speak to several pest-control companies before you settle on one. Check to see if they are a member in good standing of a well-known association involved in the control of pests and if they have a record with the Better Business Bureau. If they don't want to give you a detailed bid in writing, then you may not want to hire them. Exceptionally low bids could also be a negative sign; you don't want to hire a company that's cutting corners - compare each pest-control company's bid to see how much they are charging for the specified amount of time and chemicals needed.
