The ABCs of Creating a Study Space for Your Kid's Bedroom
by Angelique Gervais

We all recall images of the idyllic youngster pouring over their books on favorite old sitcoms. It is true that there are some things that can make your kid's bedroom a better place to study. Soon it will be your son or daughter creating that idyllic image of studiousness with the help of your creative bedroom design.
How to Create a Conducive Study Space
When thinking through your kid's bedroom design, be sure to include a specific area that will be just for study. When they sit down in that chair they automatically find it easier to focus on the work at hand. Organize your kid's bedroom furniture so that their study area is free of distractions such as television, distracting posters, and music.
How to Choose Study Furniture
Selecting furniture that is the appropriate size for your child is essential. Be sure to have your kids sit at any bedroom study furniture before you buy. If you are ordering kid's bedroom furniture online or though a catalogue, be sure to measure the seated length from your child's back to their knee and from the back of the knee to the floor. Your child's feet should be able to sit flat on the floor while their back is supported by the chair. The top of the desk should be at elbow height when they are sitting with their arms crossed in front of them. For younger children, a used school desk may be your best bet for a study space. For older kids, the bedroom design might include a computer desk and computer chair. Computer seats are ideal for kid's bedroom study furniture. They are both comfortable and offer very good posture support.
Additional Bedroom Design Tips for Studying
It is very important to include a good desk lamp in your kid's bedroom study space. Dull lighting encourages daydreaming. If your kids do find their mind is wandering, have them stand and turn away from their books. It is important not to develop a day-dream connection with school books. Most importantly, work with your kids when making the bedroom design plan. No matter how well you think the space is, if they don't like it, they won't use it.
